This depicts Computer espionage. The spike in 1996 is most interesting. While the numder of cases and the number of solved cases quadruples the number of suspects basically stays the same. One person convicted of computer espionage in 800 cases?
In 2001 we see another spike but not with that outstanding difference between suspects and cases.
This depicts “forged technical recordings” as recorded by the german official crime statistics. Basically all the lines close together say: which each incident we have a single suspect and we solve the case. Good thing but unusual.
I suspect the statistic is really only a statistic of fraud involving tachograph. And that is only found out if the police catches a truck driver on the road with a manipulated tachograph.
Still I wonder what was going on 1999 & 2000. And what will happen when in January 2005 the electronic road toll for trucks will be deployed in Germany?
This graph shows the activity of the German federal Police’s “internet patrol”. In 2003 they handled less than half of the cases than in 2000. Strange.
Green is (trafficing of?) childporn, violet illegal drugs, blue legal drugs, orange Nazis and leftish pendants etc., red porn involving animals, yellow other crimes.
Strangely they completely seem to completely ignore scams, phishing, spam and other stuff which results in direct damage to citizens.
I started updating the statistics in my thesis. Some fascinating stuff in 2000-2003 I hopefully will blog more on that topic in future. The statistics above depict the summed up development of “computer crime” in Germany as known to the police.
What really really is impressive is the spike in 2002. besides that it seems the raise in computer crime seems to start getting less steep.
The mauve line is solved cases. It is noteworthy that this number falls while the number cases slightly raises. Is the police getting less effective or are criminals getting harder to catch?
The blue line is the number of different suspects. Interestingly this was en par with solved cases until 1994. Seemingly since a single criminal caught gets accused of more and more incidents.
The pink line is the number of attempts instead of successful crimes.
